{Fellowship Friday} My Purpose? My Mission....

Each day of each week I receive emailed daily devotionals from our church. On Friday's I spend time with all of these devotionals. I do not read them in any order nor do I have an agenda. I just spend time applying these devotionals to my life, rationalizing what they mean to me, and putting it all into words. This is the first time I share with you, during {Fellowship Friday}, my thoughts on our weekly devotionals. As this is sure to become the common Friday theme! Enjoy.....

What is your purpose? What does purpose mean? Do you have an idea of what God says your purpose is?

For me, I believe that my purpose as a christian is to have a God-given mission. As more clearly pointed out to me this week from a daily devotional sent to me from church.

"And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."-Matthew 28:18-20

Now, what is my God-given mission? Is it to travel to unseen lands, lands of poverty, lands of brokenness, lands without knowledge of Christ and spread the word? Is it to work in orphanages of third-world countries and provide hope to children of the hopeless? What is my purpose?

Another church devotional from this week states that "when you realize that you are more concerned for the well-being of other people than you are for yourself, you are closer to understanding your purpose. When you realize the desires of your heart are more closely aligned with God's, you are closer to understanding your purpose. When you expect a positive outcome, regardless of your dire circumstances, you are closer to understanding your purpose. When you can give God the glory before, during and after a difficult time in your life, you are closer to understanding your purpose."

Man, that hit me like a ton of bricks. Especially the last few sentences. I have been through some seriously difficult times in my life. All in which I soon after gave the glory to God for saving me, for guiding me, for being with me during these times. But what is my purpose? Why did I go through these things? Is it to be a better mother, a stronger woman of faith, a better wife? Is it to share my testimony in hopes of reaching other women who have been through the life I have? Is it to want more of my relationship with Christ knowing that He brought me through all of this?

What is my purpose, God?

As I have been in prayer about what exactly God wants of me, needs of me, what He proclaims my mission to be, I then read the words; "Can our mission be accomplished through you as a great mom? You bet! Please don't devalue your mission or the position from which God has called you to fulfill your mission. Embrace it...leverage it...and make much of His glory through it!"

Helllloooo. God is telling me this week to focus, that my purpose is to raise up my child in His glory. Not only do I realize this from our weekly devotionals but also from the first week of our Good Morning Girls summer Bible study. My goodness. Being a great mom and glorifying God through the raising of my children is my most important mission. I need to be the example of a woman that I would want my son to marry. I need to teach my son of the temptations and sins he will be faced with while growing up. I need to teach him that it is okay to take a stand for what he believes. I need to teach him to believe. Believe in something much greater than himself. Believe in God, for He will never leave you or forsake you! You may take wrong turns, and go astray sweet son of mine, but He will always be your rock! Yes, this is my mission!

"For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created  through Him and for Him." -Col. 1:16

What is your mission? Do you have a purpose? Of course you do. If you aren't sure what that purpose or mission is, be in prayer, God will show you!

Have a little faith.......
