If you didn't already know, we have two dogs. One of our dogs is a new puppy (which is exhausting in itself) and the other is a six year old, old man. Well this week we have three dogs. We are dog sitting for my parents while they complete a few bucket list trips!
Normally this wouldn't be an issue, however just a few short weeks ago we lost our family dog of 18 years. Leaving behind our other pup of nine years who has never been alone. She is a sweet, very plump, basset hound named Honey. Oh, Honey Bunny! She is a very large love bug who will just break your heart. She cries, and looks around for her friend all.day.long. She seems so lost. Even at our house with two other pups!
Our community group is now being hosted at our house for several reasons and our poor friends had to endure the sound of Miss Love Bug crying the entire time. Not only were our CG friends subject to her pitiful cries, we got to enjoy them all.night.long.
So, between the toddler who slept horizontal in our bed, the old man dog on my feet, the puppy who flops like a fish out of water in her kennel all night, and the giant love bug who cried the entire night, we got a lot of sleep last night. I do mean a lot. NOT.
Needless to say, my week started out a few minutes behind this morning, once again not getting the quite time of my summer Bible study that I so desperately want. My quite time has become my lunch time during work each day. Hey, whatever works, right?! You working moms get it! This is the part where I become quite envious of those of you out there that are blessed enough to stay at home with your babies. One of these days.....eh?
At least Jacob was excited to go to school this morning and show Miss "Tippany" his new race car. That and my coffee pot made some delicious java. Besides being utterly exhausted, and the one small dog poo in the floor, the morning was quite smooth. (Let's hope my house is still in one piece with 3 dogs this afternoon)
GMG Week 1 updates:
Last Monday I introduced the Good Morning Girls Bible Study with Week 1, Day 1. Here is a synopsis of what I studied the rest of the week:Week 1, Day 2: Proverbs 31:4 "Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings. It is not for kings to drink wine or for rulers to take strong drink." [ESV] I notice from the beginning the urgency in Lemuel's mother's tone. Perhaps this is brought on because he is king and being a king/ruler in any society you are faced with many more sinful temptations. I see the need as a mother to teach/warn my son about the temptations he will be faced with. I need to teach him the consequences of sinful behavior and ways to avoid putting himself in these situations. I pray for God's direction in this parenting journey.
Week 1, Day 3: Proverbs 31:5-6 "Lest they drink and forget what has been decreed and pervert the rights of all the afflicted. Give strong drink to the one who is perishing and wine to those in bitter distress." [ESV] These verses clearly point out and translate that people who depend on these things, like alcohol, are hurt. It is clear that God is telling me to set good examples. To lead my family in good directions. It reminds me to allow Jacob to make mistakes and understand that he will but that if I lead him in the direction of the Lord he will always come back to Him.
Week 1, Day 4: Proverbs 31:7-9 "Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more. Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." These verses hit me like a load of bricks. Teach my children to stand up against wrong, to stand up for what they believe in, and to have compassion for those less fortunate. What a job to do as a mother. Thankful that God is with me.
What a week of learning about being an example for my children. How great is our job as mothers? Thankful to be walking with God in parenting for direction and guidance.
Next Monday I will share with you all of week 2 as I dive further into the word, further into Proverbs 31.
Praying for Jacob:
"I pray that he may grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
